Catherine P. Sons is involved in the firm's litigation and transactional practices. Catherine is a 2006 graduate of DePaul University College of Law, where she was a Dean's Merit Scholar and served as an Associate Editor of the DePaul Law Review. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from
Illinois State University
in 2002, where she was a Presidential Scholar and graduated summa cum laude. Catherine is primarily involved in the firm's complex civil litigation and class action litigation work. She has experience representing employees in various wage and hour matters, including each of those matters listed under the Current Cases tab. She was primarily responsible for the recent Appellate Court decision in the case of Lewis v. Giordano's Enterprises, Inc., 921 N.E.2d 740 (1st Dist. 2009), in which the Illinois Appellate Court, as a matter of first impression in Illinois, held that private releases of wage claims arising under the Illinois Minimum Wage Law and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act, obtained by an employer from its employees, are void as a matter of law. Catherine is also involved with the firm's transactional practice, including entity structure, M&A work and other corporate matters. She is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association.
